Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
sounds about right
do not know for sure there are a lot of football/soccer coins out there some are real heavy real nice |
Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
I'm buying the coin more for the silver value than I am for the numismatic value. How would one go about determining the qualtity/quality of metal in a coin such as this?
Sorry for the novice questions - - I'm just getting started in the precious metals game. |
Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
If you are looking to buy it mainly for the silver then I would probably steer away from this coin. If you were to sell this coin to me I would not buy it since the content of the coin is questionable to me.
It does look nice though. |

Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
Jeff,
Curious to know why you consider the content of this coin to be questionable. Is there a way in which one can identify a true silver coin/bar by sight? Curt, Did you mean only buy rounds & bars if I'm looking for the metal content rather than the numismatic value? Also, why does this coin have none? |
Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
Nice looking coin. A Kilo is 32.15oz. Silver is silver. If you can pick it up at spot (or close to it), why not? It says .999 AG on it. Treat it like a round, if the price is right.

Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
Remember it is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. How many FIFA fans do you know collect Coins? And how many of them are Korea/Japan fans?
I am only interested in Bullion coins from a reputable producer. Generally these are from Government Mints and have the weight and amount stamped on them. |
Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
It says "1kg AG.999" right above Korea/Japan. Like I said, treat it like a round. Rounds have a premium to. Figure the premium on it. Is it below spot? Is it .25 an oz.? Is it 3.00 an oz. Do the math and base your decision on cost per oz. and is it a good deal for silver. Is there numismatic value there? Probably in Korea or Japan, like someone else said. I wouldn't base my price on it.

Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
You can see 1 oz 999 on it? I can't see it anywhere.

And I am the one with glaucoma. Go figure. If it's online, PM me with the address and if I like the price I will help you out and take it off the market tonight. No need to lose any sleep. Silver is silver. he he he... I am not afraid of this piece. Prag:smokin: |
Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
Hmmm I guess it does say 999 sure don't know why you can see that so good and I can't. If is is an ounce it is still only worth an ounce of generic silver. I have lots of them but never take one that does not say 999 1 ounce or more on it.
I think it's time for a larger monitor. |

Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
When I started collecting I bought a bunch of American Silver Eagles and Canadian Silver Maples. They carry a premium compared to the generic bars/rounds but they are good to collect when you're starting out. They're both legal tender, .999 pure silver guaranteed by their issuing governments, and they are easy to sell because they're always in demand. I'd look into those for now if you want silver.
I also agree with californiajeff, that coin may be more difficult to sell. I personally wouldn't want it. |
Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
It's right under the gold world cup trophy "1kg Ag .999".
I'm just concerned if it's really 1kg pure silver. How would I know for sure that it's not a chunk of cast iron with a plating of silver on it? What's the best and most affordable method of verifying silver content in coins & bars? Or does everyone trust that a bar reading .999 silver is pure? |
Re: HELP! Is this coin legit?
I wouldn't be scared of this coin. But 1kg is pretty large, so someone could feasably fake it. It's in the $250- $300 range, so it would be worth the trouble. No one is gonna fake a 1 oz. round for $10.
That said, why bother at all, unless its really cheap, which would scare me. Go with 90% junk silver, more bang for your buck. $1000 in Silver Eagles or Maples would be around 90 Oz. $1000 in 90% would be about 110 Oz., a 22% increase. When silver hits $50, which would you rather have? :eating: beef |
